El texto, también conocido como ‘Libro de Set’, fue una obra independiente en arameo-siriaco, aunque posteriormente, al ser transmitida en árabe y en georgiano, el texto fue incluido como una unidad narrativa más del texto de la ‘Caverna de los Tesoros’. La versión árabe del ‘Testamento de Adán’ narra las enseñanzas de Adán a su hijo Set, centrándose en dos aspectos esenciales: el significado de las horas del día y de la noche en la liturgia celeste, sección conocida como el Horarium, y la profecía sobre la venida del Salvador y su posterior muerte por la humanidad.
