Gilbert Keith Chesterton (Londres 1874 ? Beaconsfield 1936) fou un escriptor i periodista prolífic i un home excèntric, apassionat i sempre polèmic. L?enginy, la intel·ligència i l?humor d?aquest britànic brillant, que es convertí al catolicisme l?any 1922, queden reflectits a totes les seves obres, entre les quals cal destacar La innocència del pare Brown, que obtingué una gran popularitat, i L?home que fou dijous, la més reconeguda de les seves novel·les.
