Guido Gozzano (nacido en Turín en 1883 y muerto prematuramente también en su ciudad en 1916) es uno de los poetas más influyentes y queridos por los lectores de la poesía italiana del siglo XX. Publicó en vida dos libros de poesía, La via del rifugio (Turín, 1907), e I colloqui. Liriche (Milán, 1911). Cultivó también la prosa, escribiendo relatos y artículos periodísticos, destacando de entre ellos los relativos a su viaje curativo a la India en 1912 publicados póstumos (Milán, 1917) con el título Verso la cuna del mondo. Lettere dal India (1912-1913), donde Gozzano alcanza su plenitud intelectual y artística.
