Javier Vela nació en Madrid en 1981, aunque pasó la mayor parte de su infancia y juventud en Cádiz. Licenciado en Teoría de la Literatura y Literatura Comparada por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, se dio a conocer con La hora del crepúsculo (Rialp, 2004), galardonado con el Premio Adonáis de Poesía, y al que le seguirían Tiempo adentro (Acantilado, 2006) e Imaginario (Visor, 2009), por el que recibió el Premio Internacional Loewe a la Joven Creación y el Premio de la Crítica Madrileña. Ha traducido a autores de expresión francesa como Jean Moréas (El viaje de Grecia, Pre-Textos, 2010), George Rodenbach o Jules Laforgue, y representado a España en numerosos encuentros internacionales de literatura.
