Hubo españoles que viajaron al extranjero por el afán de conocer mundo, seducidos por el animado espectáculo de las estaciones, la llegada de los trenes y el trasiego de los viajeros y sus equipajes. Tal es el caso de Mesonero Romanos, Pedro Antonio de Alarcón o Carolina Coronado. Un mundo, el de los trenes, por el que también mostraron interés pintores como Adolfo Guiard, Joaquín Sorolla o Darío de Regoyos, el pintor por excelencia de los trenes españoles. Sin olvidar el Orient Express, el “rey de los trenes”, que, desde 1883, atravesó Europa camino de Constantinopla, y por el que escritores, diplomáticos, pintores y cineastas sintieron una atracción desbordante.
