Los siete monjes de Tibhirine, pertenecientes al Orden Cisterciense de la Estricta Observancia (conocidos como trapenses) fueron secuestrados y asesinados durante la guerra civil algeriana. El 8 de diciembre de 2018, la Iglesia de Argelia celebró su beatificación. El acto tuvo lugar en el santuario de Nuestra Señora de Santa Cruz de Orán. Fue la primera vez que se llevó a cabo una beatificación en un país musulmán.
