Niki de Saint Phalle (París, 1930-California, 2002) fue una artista autodidacta a la que se ha definido como feminista, radical y política. Sus trabajos se vincularon al grupo francés de Nuevos Realistas junto a su 2º esposo el también escultor y pintor Jean Tinguely. Su trayectoria incluye numerosos proyectos de arte público, entre los que están El Jardín del Tarot o su serie de “Pinturas tiroteo” en los 60. También realizó cine experimental y escenografía para ballet pero, sobre todo, llega al gran público con el desarrollo de sus voluptuosas Nanas, enormes esculturas que revolucionan la representación de la mujer en el arte.
