Adolf Friedrich von Schack (Brüsewitz, 1815 - Roma, 1894) fue un poeta, dramaturgo e historiador alemán. Diplomático de profesión, viajó por Italia, Egipto y España, país este último en el que residió durante un tiempo dedicado al estudio del pasado árabe. A partir de 1855 se estableció en Munich, donde reunió una importante colección de pintura que aún permanece en dicha ciudad. Como escritor relacionado con la cultura hispánica, merecen destacarse sus traducciones de Spanisches theater (1845) y sus ensayos de historia de la literatura: Geschichte der dramatischen Literatur und Kunst in Spanien (3 vols. 1845-1846) y Poesie und Kunst der Araber in Spanien und Sicilien (1865, 2ªed. 1877) que presentamos en la ya clásica traducción de don Juan Valera.
