Built in 1765 by João Fontanes de Maqueira (1716-1770) and restored in 1994 by Christine Vetter and Claudio Rainolter, the organ of the church of São Vicente de Fora in Lisbon is perhaps the internationally best-known Portuguese historic instrument. Its exceptional character is largely due to its size and construction quality, but above all to the fact that it has survived to this day in a practically original condition. The edition of this Book-DVD, including excerpts from concerts, but also the history and characteristics of the organ explained by João Vaz (main organist since 1997), not only allows the public to enjoy the sound of the instrument, but also offers numerous historical and technical data and images revealing the plastic beauty of this masterpiece of organ art in Portugal.
